The goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) is a tribute to the bird that has accompanied me on different occasions throughout my childhood and adolescence. His song made our home happy. This bird is characteristic in that, like other finches, can learn new verses that can be taught, coming to a small set "dialogue" between the bird and the person.

As you may have noticed, the squirrel (Sciurus vulgaris) is my second surname (in Catalan). It's lucky to have an uncommon Catalan surname. When the platform domains .CAT appeared, Fundació .cat, in 1995, I booked this domain, which has hosted this site since 2005. Since then, I have been proud to have a domain with my name and the extension CAT, Catalan!

Once when I had got older, I had a ferret (Mustela putorius furo). Jau was his name. It was rebellious, restless ... It was then I confirmed the belief that I had forged along my life that I was not prepared to have pets at home. As people say, "animals in the field!". If one day I have a house in the country I'would like to have many animals: dogs, cats, ferrets, geese... all kinds!

From these studies, the idea of doing a doctoral thesis came up. We spent years collaborating with the Unitat de Zoologia at the faculty and I was specializing in beetles. This is the most diverse group. For the thesis, I decided to study ladybirds, where we find the best feature ladybird of seven dots (Coccinella septempunctata), from the Montseny. Unfortunately, studying and having a job at the same time is very hard work and finally I ended up abandoning this thesis project. Of course, this effort was reflected in a master's degree in zoology.

Before I had finished my university studies I had the opportunity to go to work in a research laboratory. It wasn't the dream of my life but it fulfilled me have found a job where my studies were valid. There were many biologists on the labour market and a job of this kind was a luxury. Currently, I work in the Servei d'Estabulari at the Universistat Autònoma de Barcelona. The common rat (Rattus norvegicus) in albino variety was the animal, among other, more characteristic with which I work.

The rattlesnake (Crotalus sp.) refers to the snake in the Chinese calendar. This is my symbol because I was born in 1965. Therefore, my element is wood. From the personality of the snake, according to the Chinese horoscope, -I do not believe in these things- I would agree that I am logical, constructive and organized. All this is just coincidence because you can find other equivalences in other animals in this horoscope. In any case, the fact of using animals in a horoscope is an idea that appeals to me.

As I said before, animals are my passion and so I studied zoology in the Collegeat University. Probably, as happened to many other people of my generation, this love of animals was greatly influenced by the documentaries of Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente. I've selected the tiger (Panthera tigris) in honour of many hours of dedication and pleasure watching animals, as one of the most beautiful animals in the world of fauna.

Finally, I just wanted to make the notation that we also belong to this exciting animal kingdom. That's why I have left for last the common chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) as a reminder of where we came from (who knows where we're going!). It's strange that concepts like solidarity, kindness and generosity, only sporadically occurs in some humans but is abundant in many animals.
